A mere eight weeks ago that the young forward stood on the Sunderland turf, seeming perplexed as the Villa manager berated him over failing to anticipate a pass in behind. Back then, as the club failed to win in six, the question was whether his performances were a symptom or the reason of Villa's broader struggles.

On Sunday, however, the touchline reaction was entirely much more joyous. Are They Legitimate Hopefuls?

This is a particularly tough proposition to address. Past precedent, the perceived status of this institution, indicates otherwise. Furthermore, they've rarely been entirely convincing in many games, despite the fact the positive results have accumulated.

According to statistical analysis, twice all season has the team posted an xG notably superior than their opponents. For a team who have just won 10 in a row, the Villans appear strangely fragile – however at the moment the fine lines are going in their favour.

Perhaps there is in that the potential of a genuine bid, however, it is improbable can continue to depend solely on a single individual.

Enjoying the Ride

Yet, nobody expected this. Nobody thought Villa would sit in a Champions League place in December. And without a doubt two months ago, few could imagine Rogers now would be at the forefront of a title charge while establishing himself as an essential England player.

This remarkable period must be cherished for the very reason that it seems so surreal.
