Medvedev's defensive play style and frequent reactions on the playing surface had led observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the elite level was concluded.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete positively, backed up by an better serve.

He fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, taking 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

Both players swapped breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden tour victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent saved 4 early break points in a tight deciding set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner secured victory with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
